Yo Sarah, I know you asked me for a Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Bar review and I’mma let you finish, but the Old Dirty Bastard is the greatest donut OF ALL TIME! of EVER!
I should first say that I set the “bar” really high when I heard about the Bacon Maple thing…I imagined a warm donut fresh from the oven, with glistening strips of bacon nestled in molten maple glaze. Obviously, they don’t make your donuts to order, so it’s not quite like that. It was definitely good, the bacon kind of hovered in the background and teased with smoky saltiness. The bacon was very crispy, which I’m not a fan of, but I think that’s necessary for shelf time. I give it a hearty “OK”.
On the other hand, the ODB, OMG! It was a cake donut with chocolate icing, dipped in crushed Oreos and drizzled with peanut butter. Mmm, mmm good! I got that cause it looked good when Anthony Bourdain had one, and I am a sheeple.
Voodoo Doughnuts is tiny, it’s one of those grungy, funky little places that I wish Birmingham had more of. I’m not sure they’d get away with selling “cock and balls” donuts in Birmingham, though. The Gay Bar might be OK though.
I stopped after god only knows how many cheese/fonts and I was edging around 50%. Then I realized there were, like, 200+ more to go and I stopped.
The beer launcher is… is… beautiful. That dude should work for NASA. Also, I would like one of those.
